Our journey begins in Plovdiv – a city older than Athens and Rome, and proudly ranked as the sixth oldest city in the world.
During our guided tour of the Old Town, you’ll wander through cobblestone streets, centuries-old houses, and timeless ruins that tell the story of over 8,000 years of history.

After the cultural walk, it’s time to unwind at the foot of the Rhodope mountains, where two hidden gems are waiting for us.

Plovdiv tour in the old town

Ranked as the 6th oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, Plovdiv has been settled since 4,000 B.C., beginning with a Neolithic settlement. Over the centuries, it has been shaped by Thracians, Greeks, and Romans, each leaving their mark. Today, the city holds 13 cultural layers, reflecting millennia of history and civilization.

Plovdiv Roman Theatre

Step back in time over 2,000 years and explore one of the best-preserved ancient Roman theatres in the world, built in the 1st century AD.
Located in the heart of the city, this magnificent landmark continues to host performances even today.

Duration: 20 minutes

Ancient Stadium of Philippopolis

Built in the 2nd century AD during the Roman Empire, this grand stadium could seat up to 30,000 spectators.
Measuring about 250 meters long and 50 meters wide, it is one of the largest Roman structures in the Balkans, showcasing the scale and glory of ancient Philippopolis.

Plovdiv old town

Wander through the architectural reserve of Plovdiv’s Old Town, famous for its beautifully preserved Bulgarian Revival-style houses and cobblestone streets.
The area is home to several museums that recreate the spirit of the 19th and early 20th centuries, offering a glimpse into Bulgaria’s cultural renaissance.

Regional Ethnographic Museum Plovdiv

the museum, housed in the most beautiful symmetrical house in the old town from the Renaissance period, contains over 60,000 artifacts which mostly relate to the traditions of Plovdiv city population and its cultural and economic environment.

Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis

Discover the remains of the Great Basilica, built in the 4th century AD – the largest early Christian church ever found in Bulgaria.
Admire its remarkable Roman mosaics, among the most beautiful examples of late antique art in the region.

Duration: 30 minutes, admission fee is not included (8eur/person)

Kapana creative district – duration: 20 minutes

After the city tour we move deep into the Rhodope mountains to visit the largest spiritual complex in the area- Bachkovo monastery.

This monastery is the second largest in Bulgaria. The monastery buildings form two rectangular courtyards – northern (original) and southern added in the 19th century.

Inside the complex we visit the main church of Virgin Mary built in 1604.
Follows the Bulgarian monastic tradition – on the first floor service rooms, on the second and third living quarters, with wide porches on the side of the courtyard.

The monastery has some of the most impressive frescoes in Bulgaria!

Duration: 1 hour / no admission fee

Our program is followed by lunch at a restaurant next to the monastery complex amidst beautiful nature.

On our way back to Plovdiv we will visit our last cultural and historical site, a living legend – Asen’s Fortress.

The fortress is located on high ground with panoramic views. We will enjoy the 360 panorama of the mountain, town of Asenovgrad and the Thracian valley.
